The north Georgia mountains are blessed with an abundance of wildlife animals. Squirrels,
raccoons, opossums, bats, snakes, beavers, skunks, fox and bears are just some of the
animals you may encounter while living here. But when they enter our homes and yards then
they become a danger to our way of life and need to be controlled. North Georgia Wildlife, a
division of Coppermines Pest Control Inc is just the company to call for such problems.
There's no doubt about it, squirrels fun to watch.
Scampering around the yard, eating nuts and seeds and
even terrorising your neighbor's cat. But when they invade
your home it's another story indeed. Aside from the noise
and droppings they leave behind, they can also chew into
wiring causing house fires.
When the allusive fox is seen by humans, something is
wrong. They may have either been fed or they have found a
food source on your property. Many farmers experience
problems with foxes catching chickens. Foxes often carry
rabies and need to be controlled when they become too
comfortable with human surroundings.
The Coyote has made great strides in N. GA.
Over population has caused them to come
in contact with man. Chickens, rabbits and
even our domestic pets are on their menu.
Alvin is not singing Christmas carols. He
tearing up the front lawn and eating your
prize flower bulbs and berries. Chipmunks
often burrow holes under slabs and
driveways causing erosion problems. We try
to release all chipmunks back into the wild far
away from your home when ever possible.
Yes, bobcats and mountain lions have been seen here in north Georgia.
The greatest threat is to poultry and cattle farmers where they come in
contact and often kill livestock. Deer and other small game animals also fall
prey to these fierce predators.
Bats are by far one of the most beneficial mammals to have around. They
literally eat thousands of insects each night. However the feces left behind
and the diseases transmitted by their bites can cause so many problems.
Bats are protected and cannot be killed. Exclusion is the only method
allowed. However this is not even allowed during their breeding season
which runs from May 15th to August 15th.
North Georgia Wildlife is a division of Coppermines Pest Control Inc.
Special care and consideration is taken by NGW when handling
nuisance wildlife animals. Exclusion is ALWAYS the first line of
defence when dealing with wildlife animals. When trapping becomes
necessary, NGW is required by law to inspect the traps on a daily
basis and handle all trapped animals in a humane way. When
possible, the captured animals will be relocated into a more suitable
habitat. Due to rabies, euthanization is required by the Georgia DNR
for certain carnivores.
Nick named the "masked bandit," The raccoon certainly lives up to it's name. In nature
they feed on plants, fruits and vegetables, small animals, crustaceans and fish.
However, they are very adaptable to urban life where the learn to raid garbage cans,
pet food and even camper's tents. Raccoons seldom build their own dens. They
would rather invade hollow logs caves and even our homes. Raccoons have even
been known to pick locks to enter a building where food can be found. These
nocturnal mammals are a known vector of rabies and should only be removed by a
wildlife specialist.
!!!!!!!!!!NEVER FEED WILD ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!

The Opossum is America's only
marsupial. They feed on almost
anything that you wouldn't eat yourself.
Over ripe fruit, garbage, slugs, snails
and dead animals are just a few of the
items on his diet. Hollow logs, caves
and even our attics and crawl spaces
are places where they may decide to
call home. While they may growl and
hiss when provoked, opossums are
very docile creatures and will usually
"play dead" when cornered. Although
they have such nature, they can bite
and should not be handled.
The skunk or polecat may look
pretty, but that is just an allusion.
Skunks have anal glands that can
cover their enemy with a very foul
nauseating spray. They normally
feed on grubs, worms and
occasionally fish. Skunks are a
known vector for rabies and should
only be dealt with by a professional
wild life expert. Contact North GA
Wildlife or the Department of Natural
Resources if you see a skunk during
the day or acting strangely.
PLEASE!!! DON"T FEED WILD ANIMALS!!!

COPPER HEAD WATER MOCCASIN DIAMOND BACKED TIMBER RATTLER
Most snakes are non-venomous and are beneficial to mankind as they kill and eat rodents and insects. They therefore should be
left alone. There are a few you should be aware of however. The snakes shown above are very poisonous and can be deadly
without immediate medical attention. Yes we will catch and remove them. However, by far the most effective way of dealing with
snakes is to change their environment. Removal of debris, keeping lawns cut short and trimming back hedges and overgrown
flowers will cause them to go elsewhere. NEVER try to catch or kill any snake. Leave this to the professionals. Non-venomous
snakes are actually protected. The trouble is most people cannot tell the difference.
